Tutu School Sayville is a ballet studio on Sunrise Highway in Sayville for children from 6 months to 8 years old. Classes are grouped by age: Baby Ballet for 6 to 18 months and Tutu Toddlers for 18 months to 3 years, both with a caregiver taking part, then Exploring Ballet for ages 3 to 5 and Primary Ballet Prep for ages 5 to 8. Lessons follow the Ballet Storytime curriculum, which uses the stories and music of famous classical ballets, and even the youngest dancers learn the basics of ballet while getting used to taking a class with others. Registration is open all year on a monthly membership, with unlimited make-up classes for enrolled dancers. Bravo Bash is the studio's take on a ballet recital, an age-appropriate introduction to the stage. The studio also hosts ballet birthday parties with a short ballet class, a birthday story performance and a cupcake picnic. Themed ballet camps for dancers ages 3 to 8 are offered at times; check the studio's camp page for current dates.
Harborfields Music Center is a music school on Pulaski Road in Greenlawn offering private and semi-private lessons for kids ages 3 and up, teens and adults. Instruments include piano, voice, guitar, drums, violin, viola, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn and baritone. Lessons follow the school's GrowthTrack curriculum, an eight-month cycle in which band comes back every other month between months of songwriting, music technology, ear training, and composition and publishing. Families can choose one lesson a week; the recommended track of one private lesson plus one semi-private session a week, with semi-private groups capped at 5 students; or two private lessons a week for students preparing for an audition or performance. For the youngest, PreNotes (ages 3 to 4) introduces music through movement, singing, rhythm games and sensory exploration, with parent-child participation, and Little KeyNotes (ages 4 to 5) introduces piano and keyboard through songs, stories and guided play, in 30-minute sessions for small groups of up to 6 children. The school also offers NYSSMA preparation for all instruments and levels 1 to 6, ending with a mock assessment; a twice-weekly program designed for homeschool families, ages 5 and up; and adult lessons for beginners and returning musicians, with evening and weekend times. Students can perform in two recitals a year.
Heart & Soul Music Academy is a music studio on High Street in Huntington that teaches piano and voice to kids, teens and adults. The youngest students start in Music Explorers, a small-group class for ages 3 to 5 who aren't quite ready for private lessons, with four to six children per class learning through singing, movement, rhythm games and interactive activities. From age 5, students take private piano and voice lessons, and piano for younger kids takes a play-based approach. Teen lessons for ages 13 to 18 run 30 or 60 minutes and can include audition and self-tape prep, musical theater training, and NYSSMA coaching. Adults 18 and up take lessons too, and no musical experience is needed to start. Performing is encouraged but not required: students can take part in a virtual Holiday Playlist showcase in December and an in-person Showcase in June. Families choose a membership with a weekly lesson or flexible lesson packages, with no semester-long commitment, and lessons are offered in person or virtually. A missed lesson that can't be rescheduled is replaced with a personalized video lesson.
Great South Bay Dance is a dance studio on Broadway in Amityville that teaches curriculum-based dance in a non-competitive atmosphere. The youngest dancers start in Caregiver & Me classes from 18 months and pre-ballet for ages 2 to 4, then move on to kindergarten ballet and tap or hip hop and acrobatics. Classes for 1st through 12th grade cover ballet and pointe, jazz and tap, lyrical and contemporary, hip hop, musical theater, Irish step, and Dance 360, which combines ballet, jazz and lyrical in one class. Adaptive Dance classes welcome dancers of all abilities, with groups from age 3 through teens and adults. The main season runs September through June, and six-week sessions for dancers 18 months through first grade are a way to try dance without committing to a full year. Dancers can take part in an optional spring dance concert, and the invitation-only Performance Ensemble performs at local events, including Long Island Ducks and Long Island Nets games. Summer classes include a dance camp for ages 3 to 5 and choreography workshops for dancers 6 and up. The studio also offers private lessons, birthday parties with dancing, games, a craft and pizza, adult dance classes, and summer beach yoga for adults at Amityville Beach. Parking and the main entrance are at the back of the building.
