Island Rock Youth Climbing Programs
Island Rock in Plainview runs weekly youth climbing programs grouped by age: Pinchers for ages 4 to 5, Crimpers for 6 to 8, Grippers for 9 to 12 and Teen Crushers for 13 and up. Younger climbers learn roped climbing through beginner instruction and climbing games, harnessed in and belayed by coaches; older groups work through a new curriculum each week across several climbing disciplines, and teens also learn belaying and rappelling. No climbing experience is needed and gear is included. Island Rock also runs a homeschool climbing program for ages 6 and up that supplements PE, and Team Island Rock, an invite-only team for ages 6 to 18 with Developmental, Competitive and Elite levels that represents the gym in USA Climbing competitions.
