About

Rivals Athletics is a youth basketball and lacrosse program founded by two coaches from Massapequa and Farmingdale: Tim Byrnes, who captained Syracuse to a national lacrosse championship and was a walk on with the Syracuse basketball team, and Steve Probst, a former Division 1 quarterback and longtime multi-sport coach. Its rec basketball program is for boys and girls from PreK to 3rd grade at the Massapequa Fieldhouse: PreK and kindergarten players learn skills in stations, and grades 1 to 3 are placed on teams that practice and play games. Rivals also fields girls club basketball teams, including one for incoming 7th graders, that practice in Farmingdale or Massapequa and play fall league games at Premier Sports in Hauppauge. Private training with Rivals coaches is available too.
