About

Fox Hollow Preserve is a beautiful 26-acre nature preserve on Long Island that offers families a chance to explore diverse forest ecosystems and spot local wildlife. The preserve features an unusual variety of distinct forest types including oak, beech, and other hardwoods, along with white pine woodland and shrub layers dominated by mountain laurel. This diversity attracts many different bird and wildlife species, making it a wonderful destination for nature-loving families interested in observing birds and other animals in their natural habitat. The preserve's hilly trails offer a moderately challenging hiking experience, with some of the steepest sections of trail in Nassau County. Depending on the season, visitors can easily spot or hear great horned owls, red-bellied woodpeckers, a diversity of warblers, and red-tailed hawks. The trails are perfect for families looking to get some exercise while enjoying nature and learning about Long Island's ecosystems. There is no permanent designated parking at Fox Hollow Preserve, but the North Shore Land Alliance can make parking arrangements with advance notice by calling (516) 922-1028. Alternatively, families can walk or bike to the preserve, or park at the nearby Cushman Preserve. The preserve is located at Route 25A near White Oak Tree Road in Laurel Hollow and is part of the Route 25A Heritage Area, a state-designated Special Groundwater Protection Area.
