Leagues & programs, answered

When does registration open for Long Island youth sports?

It varies by league, and we do not track registration dates. As a rule of thumb, spring sports open sign-ups over the winter and fall sports over the summer. Most league listings link out to the league's own site, which is the only place those dates are reliable. That is deliberate: we would rather send you to the source than show you a date that went stale a year ago.

What sports are on here?

Baseball and softball, soccer, lacrosse, swimming, martial arts, dance, and gymnastics are the big ones, and there are plenty more. Filter by sport to see one at a time. Leagues & Programs covers more than travel teams: it is also the dance studios, dojos, swim schools, and clinics that run on a season.

What is the difference between a league and a program?

Not much, on the ground. A league is the traditional season of games. A program is everything else you sign up for and show up to weekly: clinics, classes, swim lessons, dance. We file them together because that is how the decision actually gets made in your house. You are looking for something for the kid to do on Tuesdays.
