About

Heckscher Park is often called the "Central Park" of Huntington, and for good reason. This beautiful 18-acre park, a gift from philanthropist August Heckscher, serves as a cultural and recreational hub for families in the heart of downtown Huntington. The park offers a peaceful retreat with its scenic pond, well-maintained play areas, and stunning gardens—all just a short walk from the bustling village center. Families visiting Heckscher Park will find plenty to do across all seasons. The playground is perfect for younger children, while older kids and adults can enjoy the lighted tennis courts, bocce courts, and the 1/3 mile jogging path loop. Nature enthusiasts should take time to explore around the pond, where there are excellent opportunities to observe local plants and wildlife. The park also features a beautiful sculpture garden and a 9-11 Memorial. Throughout the year, Heckscher Park hosts major community events that make it a vibrant destination. The Chapin Rainbow Outdoor Stage presents the popular Summer Arts Festival (late June through early August) with free performances every evening featuring local, national, and international artists. The park also hosts Huntington's Fall Festival and other seasonal celebrations, making it an ideal spot to experience community culture. Admission to the park itself is free, making it an affordable family outing. The on-site Heckscher Museum of Art also provides educational programs and art exhibits. For detailed information about group events, reservations, or specific programs, families can contact the Parks & Recreation Department at (631) 351-3089 or visit during business hours at Town Hall.
